About Glerolles Chateau
In 1077, Henri the IVth, emperor of Germany traveled to Italy to ask the Pope for his forgiveness. Passing through Lausanne, he asked for Bishop Broucard's help to accompany him to Carossa via the Mont-Joux (today the Grand St.-Bernard) pass. Forgiven, upon his return he rewarded the Bishop by offering him Lavaux of Lutry in Corsier and by naming him Prince. The Bishop thereon became responsible for the road linking France to Italy. He therefore in 1150 undertook the building of a dungeon in St.-Saphorin. These were the first stones of the Glerolles Castle, which became the centre of the little seigniory of St.-Saphorin.
During the conquest of the Country of Vaud by the Bernese in 1538, the castle naturally fell into their hands and they therefore installed a bailiff who supported Bern until 1796. Following the rebellion of the Vaudois people, the castle became the property of the people and was no longer the Bishops'. In 1803, after the creation of the Canton of Vaud, the castle became a private property, repurchased by the Ruchonnet family. Between 1803 and 1977, the castle had many different owners. It was finally in 1977 that Maurice Cossy, son of a Ruchonnet heiress, bought back the totality of the estate. In 1997, his son Francis took over the estate for his own account. In January 2003, Francis Cossy transferred the estate over to Sandrine and Philippe Trueb, who now assure its continuity.
The Château de Glerolles vineyards are situated in the Saint-Saphorin appellation in Lavaux and rest on sloping banks that dive into the Léman Lake. You will find a fantastic selection of wines in Glerolles own wine cellar, perfect to add that special something to your wedding at this Chateau.
The Glerolles Castle has been completely renovated, and you have the possibility to rent the cellar, as well as the garden next to the lake and the covered terrace, and an indoor dining space. There is also a private port for those who wish to come to the wedding by boat.
